Columbus Networks: Growing and thriving amidst service challenges

Challenge: Miami-based Columbus Networks operates one of the largest undersea fiber optic rings in the Pan American - Caribbean Region. The company experienced a series of undersea fiber optic cable cuts and network outages, disrupting communication transport services for other carriers and service providers in the region. The protracted service outages occurred as Columbus Networks was finalizing plans for a multi-million dollar network improvement and expansion project. Columbus Networks needed to restore confidence among current and potential customers and the international media.

Approach: Columbus Networks retained SpinCom to help manage the crisis. SpinCom developed a series of news updates, letters to customers and employees as well as key messages and talking points for use by sales and customer service teams.

Results: In the midst of the company's largest network remediation and expansion project, Columbus Networks sold more network capacity in one year than it did during the previous five years combined. Proactive communications coupled with accelerated network improvements restored confidence among investors, customers and employees.
